VIRIDIAN

After years of photographing human subjects, I found myself questioning the boundaries I had unconsciously created around my practice. Viridian emerged as a deliberate departure from familiar territory, a chance to play and rediscover what my camera could do.
I wanted to break out of my comfort zone of shooting human subjects, and instead explore photography as pure storytelling. So i decided to do a 30 day challenge that started July 2nd, 2025. I had to take 1 picture everyday. Each image had to tell a story or convey a feeling, whether through forgotten objects, empty spaces, or the simple drama of light and texture.
This project became my way of unlearning, allowing myself to find stories I never knew existed and emotions I had yet to capture.
Curatorial Statement
In our image saturated world, where photography often defaults to the documentary or the immediately recognizable, Viridian offers something refreshingly introspective. This exhibition examines the creative process itself, specifically, what happens when an artist consciously disrupts their own established practice.
Scott Braque's journey from figure photography to abstract narrative represents a broader conversation about artistic evolution and the courage to embrace uncertainty. By removing the human subject, Braque strips away photography's most obvious storytelling device and challenges both himself and viewers to find meaning in subtler visual languages.
The work speaks to contemporary photography's expanded possibilities, where emotional resonance can emerge from texture, light, and composition alone. In presenting Viridian, we celebrate not just the resulting images, but the artistic bravery required to start over, to question one's own expertise, and to rediscover wonder in the everyday.
This exhibition invites viewers to consider their own ways of seeing and perhaps to find inspiration in the simple act of looking differently.
